3rd Generation Kindle Cover (6" display) Pattern Victoria Trauger ::: Beloved Brown-Eyed Girl (The pattern is written without the striping. If you want to use two colors and create stripes, my striping pattern is at the bottom of this page. Begin in your first color and after unzipping the provisional cast-on edge, refer to the bottom of this page to create the stripes.) To begin, provisionally cast on 18 stitches (chain about 24, then pick up 18 from the middle). Row 1: Knit across, turn. Row 2: Purl across, turn. Unzip your provisional cast-on and knit across the 17 resulting stitches, then make one (36 stitches total around). Now knit around in stockinette until the cover measures about one inch less than the length of the Kindle. I knit 38 rounds to achieve this, but your's may require more or less rounds. Work top edging in seed stitch or garter or ribbing--whatever you'd prefer. Bind off in pattern. :::::::::: STRIPING :::::::::: If you want strips, work two colors as follows: begin with color A and knit the cast-on the first 3 rounds with color A; switch to color B and continue as follows: *3 rounds color B, 2 rounds color A, 3 rounds color B, 1 round color A, 3 rounds color B, 2 rounds color A, 3 rounds color B*, 3 rounds color A, then repeat from * to * once more. This gave me the 38 rounds I needed. If you need more or less, adjust accordingly. Or, better yet, make up your own striping pattern!
